LA 591J Current Research in Sustainability for Planning and Landscape Architecture Spring 2009

With Peter Kumble, instructor of record, co-led with Laura Shaffer, dual degree candidate in Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning at UMass-Amherst.

This student-led seminar is a blend of sustainability content, professional development and research methodology. Our focus will be on current research in sustainability as it relates to the Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning field. The course will cover several areas of current research in sustainability in numerous LARP contexts from agriculture to human health, ecology to climate change. At the same time, students will polish their presentation skills, build their research abilities, and learn how to facilitate discussion. There is also a class field trip to tour Ecovillage at Ithaca, Ithaca New York and tour Cornell University's campus architecture and unique incorporation of tall gorges, fast rivers and deep ravines into an urban landscape.
